چکیده

We performed an exploratory experiment aiming to assess the use of stopping rules in information acquisition. Participants were requested to make a decision or procrastinate on 24 economic/financial scenarios after buying information pieces. Behavioral and EEG data were recorded for analysis. Results showed that participants decided according to Bayesian calculations to stop information acquisition and decide. Moreover, information acquisition strategies seemed consistent with prospect theory, with participants weighing information pieces differently and seeking more or less information given different manipulations in scenario probability, consequence valence and intensity. EEG data suggests a lateralization at frontal electrode sites. With probabilities stated, low negative consequence scenarios showed a positive peak at F3 around 200 ms before a decision was made. When probabilities were not stated, high positive consequences scenarios evoked a negative deflection at F4 around 400 ms before a decision.

Stopping Rules in Information Acquisition at Varying Probabilities and Consequences: an EEG Study

An experiment aiming to assess the use of stopping rules in information acquisition was performed. Participants were requested to make a decision in 24 financial scenarios with the possibility of buying information pieces. Behavioral and EEG data were recorded for analysis. Results showed that participants followed Bayesian calculations in order to determine a stop on information acquisition an...

Stopping Rule Use

Information search is critical in most decision-making tasks. An important aspect of information search is the stopping rule used by the decision maker to terminate information acquisition. Decision-making problems may be usefully decomposed into design problems and choice problems. The distinction is critical because the goals of stopping behavior in the two types of problems are quite differe...

Exponential Models: Approximations for Probabilities

Welch & Peers (1963) used a root-information prior to obtain posterior probabilities for a scalar parameter exponential model and showed that these Bayes probabilities had the confidence property to second order asymptotically. An important undercurrent of this indicates that the constant information reparameterization provides location model structure, for which the confidence property ...

Comparing different stopping criteria for fuzzy decision tree induction through IDFID3

Fuzzy Decision Tree (FDT) classifiers combine decision trees with approximate reasoning offered by fuzzy representation to deal with language and measurement uncertainties. When a FDT induction algorithm utilizes stopping criteria for early stopping of the tree's growth, threshold values of stopping criteria will control the number of nodes. Finding a proper threshold value for a stopping crite...
